A Colombian Angel

Hello! I know it has been a while. But here I am!!!

The artist from Colombia who’s style inspired me for this angel was Alejandro Obregón. These paintings, especially the first one:

It inspired me so much that I copied a lot of it. The biggest difference is that I tried to recreate Bogotá below the angel. This painting of his helped me with this part:

If you look at the bottom of my painting you will see that church like structure! It was so fun to copy! Here is my process…

At the beginning I thought I could build the angel with the condors feathers, but it looked like the birds were attacking it! So I changed that when I traced it onto tracing paper:

I also decided to add the flag of Colombia as a scarf. Then it was so fun painting. The only part that was hard for me was to use the brush with less control in some parts… loved the results!

I saved my favorite color for the end like dessert… red!

I really admire how good he is at painting condors! Ready for a showdown? With the magic of Adobe Illustrator I reflected my painting’s photo:

Looking at both of them I notice the tilt forward in Alejandro’s running girl and I think mine would have looked better if it had that tilt… I also like the blue in his painting better, mine came out too gray. But… like the addition of the city of Bogotá in mine… she is its guardian angel!
